History have always fascinated me since childhood. The idea that what we are today has something to do with the events that happened in the past - either by choice, or accident, makes for an interesting discussion. Our family traveled to Cebu last month, making sure that Bantayan Island is our top priority visit list. Looking to get the local feel, other than the usual beaches, we headed to Bantayan town by dawn; which is a mere 40-minute tricycle ride from Santa Fe port. The town is a blast from the past - 16th century Spanish parishes, Filipino-Chinese cemeteries and heritage houses can be seen around while on the ride. This brings to mind the classical management practice that was passed down by the Western culture and largely remains as the default management practice in most of the industries today. Classical management's golden era was during the Industrial Revolution wherein the assembly lines are the innovation. Stakeholder capitalism have also gained a strong foothold in the businesses and organizations that have sprouted quickly during those glorious times. Fast forward to 2022, times have changed. Some old practice are no longer applicable in the modern times, else they need to be modified to benefit the people and the society. Create jobs and ensure its protection and perpetuity. Of course it's a different story in the town of Bantayan. We always want to connect with the past and remember the invaluable lessons and the values we all have learned from it.
