Squint or Strabismus is a condition in which there is misalignment of eyes. Many times , this is due to an uncorrected refractive error and can be easily managed by prescribing the correct power of glasses Accommodative esotropia is one of the most common forms of SQUINT (crossed eye), which is a type of misalignment of eyes. In this condition, the child has a high spectacle number and they put in lot of effort on their eyes to focus as they try to see clearly. This increase effort on focussing leads to misalignment / squinting of eyes The key to a successful management is early detection and prescribing the correct power of spectacles. The glasses reduce the effort of focussing and convergence of the eyes and thus straighten the eyes However, there are other types of Squint which need orthoptic exercises or surgical correction, but correcting the refractive error is the first and most important step in the management of strabismus So, if you notice any deviation, misalignment in a child’s eye, DO NOT ignore it and get it checked at the earliest #drhemalathavidyashankar#pediatricophthalmologist#eyecareforchildren #squint #accomodativeesotropia
