Can I Be an Engineer if I Don’t Like Math? Yes, you can be an engineer without liking math, but it depends on what kind of engineering you want to do. While some engineering fields, such as civil and mechanical engineering, require a strong mathematical background, others, such as software engineering or electrical engineering, may require less emphasis on math. Even in those fields, however, a basic understanding of mathematical concepts is required. A strong attention to detail and the ability to think critically, solve complex problems, and communicate effectively are critical in any engineering field. Even if math isn't your favorite subject, if you have these skills and a passion for engineering, you may be able to excel in the field. Before deciding on a career path, it is critical to research the specific requirements of various engineering disciplines as well as consider your own strengths and interests.
