The History of Paintless Dent Repair Mending a malleable metal into a desired shape dates back to 200 BC with metals such as Gold, Silver and Tin being used for techniques called repoussé and chasing. These are the earliest documented terms in metalworking to which a metal is shaped by hammering from the back side to create the design. In 1931 the term Paintless Dent Repair was cited in “The Key To Metal Bumping” by Frank T. Sargent. It would be another 30 years before these PDR strategies would make a public display on record. At the 1960 “International Motor Sports Show” in NY City, Oscar Flaig’s job with Mercedes-Benz was to repair any minor imperfections to the body of the vehicles on display, caused in transport or by the public. After the show, Flaig would return to his job at Mercedes-Benz in Germany where he would devise techniques, design tools and provide PDR training to all of the Mercedes plants. That was until 1979 when Juergen Holzer moved from Germany and started Dent Kraft - the 1st recorded business in the US to provide the service of PDR.
