SPORTS HERNIAS Over the past several years Dr. Edelman has perfected a method of treatment for Sports Hernias. He is well recognized among the sports community and area orthopedic surgeons as being the surgeon best able to diagnose and repair this condition in South Florida. Dr. Edelman has worked with the NBA’s Miami Heat since 1989. He has also treated many professional athletes from the Florida Panthers, Miami Marlins, Miami Dolphins, Miami FC (Strikers), college athletes including those from the FIU sports program, and many other college and high school athletes. Of course, he has also helped many “weekend warriors” as well. Most patients require general anesthesia, and are treated in an outpatient facility. The repair of the hernia takes under an hour, and patients typically go home within 4 hours of their surgery. Patients can return to work within 3 days, and vigorous physical activity within 1 month.
