Heavy Rain Affecting Clay Soils Under Sugar Land Homes The heavy and near daily rains have saturated the clay soils which is found under every house in Sugar Land. When clay soils become wet they swell in volume and this creates movement under the concrete home foundation. This upward movement is called "upheaval" and can be as much as several inches. This soil movement can crack the slab foundation, plumbing pipes under the foundation, exterior brick walls, and more. Unfortunately, it doesn't stop there. What goes up must come down. When the rain stops and drier weather arrives the clay soils will lose moisture and lose volume. The slab foundation, along with the house on top, will settle. And it is never uniform. Some areas of the soil will swell more than others, and some areas will shrink more than others. The photos on our website will tell the story. Stabilize and level your home's foundation today.
