Self Esteem describes your internal sense of value, it’s basically your overall view of yourself. Your self-esteem incorporates a range of different aspects, for example: your self-confidence, your sense of competence, your sense of identity and sense of belonging. When we have good self-esteem, we are likely to feel positive about ourselves and life generally, but when self-esteem is low, we are more likely to think negatively and see ourselves in a critical way, lack confidence and motivation, and avoid social situations. It usually begins in childhood when we receive negative messages about ourselves from our caregivers, siblings, teachers, social media and friends. Using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – CBT techniques, I will help you to identify your recurring negative thoughts (cognitions) and become aware of how these thoughts can influence your behaviour. I will help you to challenge these thoughts, think more realistically and improve your self esteem and assertiveness.
