Different kinds of self-care When we talk about self-care, images of going to the spa, or being on vacation somewhere peaceful, or sunning on the beach come to mind. But though those are forms of self-care, they are not the only forms out there. Self-care is necessary in our daily lives. The Gottman Institute recently listed these forms: Drinking a glass of water Paying attention to how you're breathing Stretching your arms to the sky Slowly turning your head to the right and to the left Feeling our feet on the ground Making a circular motion with your shoulders Eating something Going outside for a few minutes Putting your legs up the wall during a break Wiggling your fingers and toes Noticing any tension in your body and naming it Checking in with someone you love Stepping away from technology for a bit Validating however you might be feeling Singing your favorite song Softening the muscles in your face (from Lisa Olivera) These are things we can do at any time, and are not confined to time and money or space. The operative word here is "intentional". Take time to think about yourself, your needs, and how you are feeling. It will works wonders for you soul.
