Phase 1 orthodontic treatment is done for younger children (usually between 6 - 9 years of age) who are at an active growth stage and who are in need of treatment for a misaligned bite or overcrowded teeth. At this age in their development, most children have a mix of primary and permanent teeth; some strategically placed baby teeth may be removed to make orthodontic treatment easier. The main goal of phase 1 is to prevent serious repercussions from orthodontic issues later in life.
