A lumbar sympathetic block is a procedure that involves injecting a local anesthetic and an anti-inflammatory medication near the lumbar sympathetic nerves in the lower back. These nerves are part of the autonomic nervous system that control functions like blood flow, sweating and pain sensation in the lower extremities.
