Do bed bugs hide or nest on metal bed frames or other metal objects? Short Answer: Bed bugs do not prefer metal to wood, paper or cloth materials, but in cases where there are thousands upon thousands of bed bugs and eggs they will use metal objects as nesting areas. The only reasons bed bugs would ever choose metal objects to nest on is if there are to many bed bugs already in the good hiding places and they are forced to choose the metal to nest on to be able to stay close to their food supply "your blood". Another reason could be that repellent insecticides where used everywhere except the metal bed rails or whatever metal object near areas that you sleep or sit for long periods of time. There are hundreds of reasons bed bugs choose weird areas to nest in but the ones mentioned above are the most common. Why do bed bugs not prefer metal to hide on? Because metal changes temperatures rapidly faster than cloth, wood or paper and they know this. Bed bugs have become accustomed to the 70 degrees Fahrenheit that most people in the United States keep there homes internal temperature at. Bed bugs do not like it when temperatures are below 63 degrees because it slows them down in every aspect. They move slower, mate less and are uncomfortable when it's below 62 degrees Fahrenheit. When it's above 86 degrees Fahrenheit bed bugs become extremely uncomfortable and start looking for cooler areas to run to. Read more about bed bugs by clicking Learn More button on this post.
