From Peter to the Shepherds among you Series: Maintaining this Hope Today we are covering 1 Peter 5:1-5, which is where Peter identifies himself as an elder (shepherd) just like any other but who was an eye-witness of Jesus' sufferings and is a sharer in the glory to come. These instructions and encouragements were part of the greater letter written to these believers. This is of paramount importance in that what was expected of these leaders was not told them in a corner, but publicly. Thogh the leaders were to be honored, respected and obeyed, there too were accountable even to the congregations. There is a very clear sense of the brotherhood in common - the overall sense of belonging to community in which at the core - every believer is equal before God and accountable before one another.
