“Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness, for His wonderful acts to the children of men.” - Ps. 107 So often it seems that Thanksgiving get’s almost overlooked by the over-commercialization of its bookend neighbors on the calendar - Halloween and Christmas. This week, our church held our Thanksgiving service early. It consisted of many people reading passages of thanks and gratitude to God. We then had about 40 minutes of praise with thankfulness being the central theme and then we ended with communion. It was brief and intimate and a good start to a week focused on giving God thanks. The primary verse we featured in our time of reading was Ps. 107 which offers several real life scenarios, any person may find themselves in, where in their cry to God for help and deliverance He saves and redeems again and again. Each scenario ends with the phrase, “Oh if men would praise the Lord for His goodness, for His wonderful acts to the children of men”. As we leave this thanksgiving week and head towards the end of the year, I pray that God will open all our eyes to the riches we have in Him through Christ Jesus and stimulate a genuine heart of thanksgiving that lasts and grows throughout the remainder of our short lives here. God Bless and Happy Thanksgiving!
