Reserved in Heaven for You Series: Maintaining this Hope The Gospel is often presenting in our day as one of two extremes. Either the focus is entirely upon the "reward" of our salvation which is presented as a place...namely Heaven...OR...it is presented as a way of ridding ourselves from sin. The interesting thing is that neither position can find much support in the New Testament. While sin IS a major issue and which WAS addressed on the cross and DOES cleanse us if Christ is recieved as Lord by faith, and while Heaven is indeed a real place where God dwells and we will someday be there with Him - these are NOT the main focuses of the Gospel. The Gospel is about relationship and intimate union with God through Jesus. As such, sin HAD an HAS to be dealt with or we could have no union with Him...but make no mistake, the FOCUS of teh gospel is a progressive union with God which produces a progressively changed life. Ulitmately the fulness of our inheritance is to take on the likeness and full character of Christ and THAT is reserved in Heaven for all who begin and continue in faith. So Heaven is NOT the goal - our goal is the Salvation of the Soul and THAT is what is reserved IN HEAVEN for all who believe! God Bless!
