The Spirit within, the Spirit upon Seris: Holy Spirit - Helper & Friend This week we are working through the 2nd chapter of Acts over which small wars have been fought within the worldwide church encouraging much division. Perhaps the greatest disappointment over the divisions which have occurred is that tongues isn't even the central issue or point of the chapter. Being a witness by the power of the Holy Spirit, is largely what this chapter is a demonstration of and teaching regarding. MUCH can be learned in this chapter regarding God's work in and through His church for the furtherance of His reign and Kingdom, but it often gets missed in favor of fighting over things this chapter actually doesn't even address! Don't get me wrong, discovering the truth about tongues and spiritual gifts is important. Furthermore, those discussions, if they are civil and biblically based and divorced as much from bias' as if humanly possible, is not only helpful but necessary. However, it is largely unproductive to be in shouting matches, only voicing opinions without listening to those who might know something we do not. We, at our church, are believers in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of prophecy and tongues, BUT we also agree with many who believe and teach that this 2nd chapter of Acts is in no way a support for that docrine.
