A Pretentious Faith Thru the Bible: Jeremiah 7 In Chapter 7 God continues to warn Israel through the prophet Jeremiah, telling them that if they will just repent, and stop living in their wickness, God would allow them to continue living in the land. God compares thier sin to that of Israel during the early years of Samuel's judging, where they placed their trust for victory against the Philisitnes in the Ark of the Covenant - WITHOUT ever turning their hearts back to the God of the covenant. It was a superficious and pretentious faith that made them feel safe in the middle of danger! Of course Judah will not listen, but Jeremiah was commanded to not pray for them since they had continued in their rebellion too long. This chapter addresses many topics God was still dealing with in His people under the New Covenant - through Jesus, Paul, James and John. We examine the comparison between the Old and the New and see that though our covenant has changed, God has not!
