Tonight we see the reprocutions of some of King David's poor decisions within his family. Again I cannot stress enough that David was ON THE WHOLE a Godly man. Like all of us, we have a predominate disposition but none of us are 100% consistent, and King David was no exception to this. This is one of the literary clues to authenticity for scripture - kings often rewrote history to favor their part in the story. Yet here we are with all of the facts, good, bad and ugly and it allows us as those who also share in flesh and blood to identify with them and better understand ourselves and our choices. David's son Absalom was angry with his father...for not dealing with the horrible incident between Amnon and Tamar...he was angry at his response to Absalom taking matters into his own hands. Eventually this led to Absalom commiting treason, which to him was not so much a national issue as it was a rebellion against his father. He conspired against him, divided his kingdom and sought to kill him. Yet after all of that King David, for all his fatherly faults, still loved his son and wept bitterly over him at his death. We need only consider our heavenly Father for a comparison.
