Saul sent as Paul to the Gentiles Series: Holy Spirit - Helper & Friend Saul was born to wealthy parents who lived in Tarsus. Tarsus was a city of learning and Saul was born into it AS a Roman citizen. As such, Saul had two names from birth, his Jewish name of Saul which was a shout back to Israel's first king and then Paul which name was similar to Saul and was latin in origin and therefore served as his Roman name. When Saul and Barnabus were called and separated unto their apostolic ministry, they went out beginning in Jewish synaguages, but this very quickly changed. According to Saul many of the Jewish leaders judged themselves unworthy of eternal life and so they turned to the Gentiles. After this point Saul almost exclusively was known as Paul. Their ministry was not without opposition, mostly from the Jews, and this chapter's first phase of their first apostolic journey was no exception. However, the Holy Spirit in them and through them was MORE than up to the challenge! Blessings!
