Does your sump pump pit look like an oil spill? It's just now March, but it is not too early to be thinking about the spring showers right around the corner! Any kind of oil or other debris in your sump pump basin is a bad sign. It's pretty much toast if the pump is leaking oil. However, you don't need to wait until your pump finally dies to consider replacement. I generally recommend replacement of your sump pump if: A) Is it over 8 years old? Do you even know how old it is? Maybe consider replacement. B) Is your pump making a weird sound, overheating, or smoking? Replacement. C) Did the pump stop working? It could be an electrical problem, so check the breaker, then if not that it's likely going to need replacement (the line could be frozen, and some other variables too though). In my opinion, it is worth the peace of mind knowing that your sump pump is going to work when the bigger rains come. Anyone who has had a flooded basement will tell you how much of a nightmare it is to fix! I install ProSeries sump pumps, battery back up systems, and sewage ejection pumps. Call to get on the schedule to have your pump inspected, tested, or replaced! 816-654-2108
