Approximately 4-6 weeks after having your braces put on you will go back to your orthodontist for your first adjustment. The archwire that is attached to your braces and basically guides the teeth into alignment and the elastics that hold the brackets to it will be removed, your orthodontist will examine your teeth and attach new bands and a new archwire if need be. The wire should never rub up against your inner cheek, if it does let your orthodontist know asap.
