It's HOT out! While we all love our plants and do not want to see them suffering during this heat, we need to remember to check the soil before watering. High temperatures can cause your plants to wilt or "look sad" even though they have plenty of moisture in the ground. Always check the soil, especially with newly planted trees, before watering. Just dig down 3-4 inches in the loose soil right outside the root ball. If the soil feels moist, leave it alone and check again in a day or two. If the soil is dry, then give your plant some water. Remember to water slowly and deeply. Watering in the morning is best. Make sure to water the soil next to the plant's root ball. Try not to water the leaves of the plants as this can cause fungal disease and sunburn. As always, if you have any questions on the care of your plants, just give us a call at (605) 728-4769. We would be happy to answer them. Don't forget to keep yourself hydrated as well!
