Hello Again. We’ve discussed why it’s important to know how much heat you need in your home. Once the “load” has been determined we are then left with choices on how to address the comfort level within your home. We do this with the type of motor and control board that will be in your new furnace. But first a little explanation….. Let’s assume that the load on your home is 80,000 BTUs. That Load is what it will take to heat your home on a ZERO (0) to MINUS 10 (-10) degree day. So, ask yourself, how many 0-to--10-degree days do we have in a typical Northwest Ohio winter? A dozen, maybe more, maybe less. Our average winter temperature is in the 20’s. The point here is we often have more heat delivered than we really need on any given day. This excess amount of heat can adversely affect the comfort level within your home. Your basic furnace is a single stage furnace. This means when there is call for heat the furnace ignites and the unit will run until the thermostat tells it to turn off. On a very cold day this isn’t a problem, but on a mild day it does propose a problem. What is that problem and how do you remediate the effect within your home will be discussed in our next episode of What’s in my Furnace. This series is brought to you as a public service by Shearer Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning, serving the Bryan, Ohio area since 1947.
