WHILE USING HEARING AIDS- GET EAR EXAMINED EVERY 6 MONTHS Use of hearing aids in needy definitely improves quality of life, but it comes with a responsibility of regular ear & hearing aid surveillance . In my practice i have observed increased chances of outer ear infection & wax accumulation in people using hearing aid. Hearing aid contact with skin surface increases chances of outer ear infection as sometimes people neglect & become lenient in cleaning the hearing aid surface. Hearing aid occupies outer canal so hampers natural cleaning pathway of wax. I advise religious cleaning of hearing aid surface every time when its inserted & regular 6 months check of ears to remove excessive wax & programming of hearing aid. This lady came to me for regular check after 1 year, i found plastic cap of hearing aid along with wax. To my surprise there was a dead ant too inside canal. Fortunately no signs of any infection.
