What Should Caregivers Share with Hospice Nurses?
Hospice care enables terminally ill patients to remain at home despite their need for medical attention. This makes it a blessing for them and their family members as well. However, it’s also important to share certain things with the hospice nurses that you would with the patient’s physicians and specialists including:
● Accidents such as a slip or trip and fall injury
● Anger, agitation, or alterations in mood
● Changes in sleeping patterns or difficulties with sleeping
● Changes in the patient’s pain level as well as any new aches and pains
● Confusion regarding familiar tasks
● Forgetting faces, locations, or names
● Physical changes such as breathing difficulties, changes in appetite, decreased thirst, difficulties bathing and dressing, loss of sight, etc.
These types of issues should always be shared with hospice nurses so that the patient’s care can be adjusted to address specific concerns or problems.
