Tales of the Weird Writing Competition
Do you love tales that are weird and eerie? Fancy yourself as a bit of a Marjorie Bowen or Algernon Blackwood?
Then read on . . .
To celebrate the manifestation of Chill Tidings: Dark Tales of the Christmas Season, the latest book in the Tales of the Weird series, Heffers bookshop is running a writing competition! (‘Sudden fiction’ to be precise – that’s stories of between 500 and 750 words.) The winner will receive a full set of 19 Tales of the Weird anthologies published by The British Library, who are kindly providing this excellent prize. The runner up will receive a copy of Chill Tidings.
Your story must include one of these sentences somewhere within:
‘And then came explanation–the sort of explanation dreams bring.’
‘I stared down, in a sickening maze of new frights.’
‘It was as bright as at midday, but the brightness was cold, blue, vaporous, supernatural.’
To enter, submit your story to events@heffers.co.uk by midnight on 31st October 2020. Velvet will print the winning tale in the December issue.
