Is there a connection between Cola flavored soft drinks and Osteoporosis? A study by Tufts University indicated that the presence of Phosphoric acid and caffeine may lead to bone demineralization. A disproportionate amount of phosphorus in the diet can lead to the displacement of calcium, an important mineral in new bone formation. In the Tufts University study both caffeinated and non-caffeinated colas were associated with lower bone density. By eliminating one or two cans of cola soda a day and increasing milk and fortified orange juice intake the damaging effects of cola flavored soft drinks can be reduced.
