Types of Anxiety Disorders
In today’s world, stress, anxiety, and depression are common. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental disease in the United States, affecting more than 35 million adults age 18 and older, nearly 18% of the population every year. It has been observed that people with an anxiety disorder have higher chances of getting hospitalized for psychiatric disorders as compare to those who do not suffer from this disorder.
There are five most common types of Disorders
1. Generalized Disorder
It is a type of disorder that occurs by chronic anxiety, extravagant tension, and worry.
2. Panic Disorder
The causes of this disorder are sudden and repeated events of intense fear due to physical problems like chest pain and heart palpitations.
3. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
The causes of this disorder are due to repeated, annoying thoughts or repetitive behaviours. Examples of repetitive behaviours are needless counting, hand washing, and checking or testing with the hope of avoiding obsessive thoughts or making them go away.
4. Social Phobia
This type of disorder occurs due to unnecessary anxiety and self-consciousness in daily social situations. Example- speaking in formal situations or drinking and eating in front of others.
5. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
This type of disorder develops when someone suffers from a distressing or terrifying event or the physical incident or experience that gave physical harm.
