Choosing Which Shade-net to Use. 1. Type: We have knitted shade nets and woven shade nets. The former works well for crop production in shade houses and green houses while the latter is better as a wind break, as a fence, for pet houses, and as a privacy screen. Knitted shade nets reduce heat build up and are lighter than their woven counterparts. 2. Shading level. The percentage of (knitted) shade net you choose blocks out that percentage of the sun. A shade-net of 30-50% is best for nurseries and vegetables, while 70-90% is great for some specific shade loving plants such as tea seedlings and ferns. Another consideration besides crop is location. farmers in hotter regions (Homabay, Isiolo, Kwale, Kibwezi, Marsabit, Mwea etc) will choose a higher percentage than those in cooler highland areas (Kinangop, Timboroa, Machakos highlands, Meru, Kianyaga, Kisii etc). #grekkonknowledgesharing Nairobi 0715 157 132/ 0735 962 626 Eldoret 0711 895 635 info@grekkon.com http://www.grekkon.com
