Tax-filing season ordinarily begins in late January. However, the ongoing pandemic, distributing the latest Economic Impact Payments, backlog of work from last year, plus additional changes to tax laws, will delay the start of tax season this year. All tax forms and instructions, including last-minute changes to tax laws, are ready now. Moreover, taxpayers who qualify can use Free File to prepare their returns now; the IRS will then hold these completed returns until it starts processing on February 12th.
