Maria, my wife, with me, at Hierve el Agua in San Pablo Villa de Mitla, Mexico. This geological phenomenon was a day trip from Oaxaca de Juárez for us. Its name, “the water boils”, derives from the way water bubbles as it travels through the spring. What looks like a cascading waterfall behind us is actually an accumulation of hardened mineral deposits on the side of the mountain left by spring water which bubbled out from limestone rocks, then slowly dripping down and calcifying over thousands of years into staggered columns that look like waterfalls. This is one of only two such petrified waterfalls in the world; the other being in Pamukkale, Turkey | @mariasoriano9 @guelaguetzaoficial | #guelaguetza #guelaguetza2019 #guelaguetzaoficial #guelaguetzaoaxaca #oaxaca #oaxacacity #oaxacamexico #oaxacadejuarez #lacasadelasartesanias #lacasadelasartesaniasdeoaxaca #mescal #mezcal #hierveelagua #hierveelaguaoaxaca #sanpablovillademitla #sanpablovillademitlaoaxaca #jefftravis #jefftraviscpa #jeffreybtravis #jeffreybtraviscpa.
