If your blood specialist find anemia with low MCV, she or he may prescribe you ferritin, iron studies and Hemoglobin electrophoresis. In case of MCV is high you may be prescribed Vitamin B12 level, though I am not in favour of testing B12 level. Most of the time with high MCV anemia, your blood specialist will give you trial of Inj. Vitamin B12. We will discuss causes of vitamin B12 non responsive high MCV anemia in next session.
