A final view from our massive photographic archives. Taken in the late 40s. Recognise anyone? At the back of the school, on a lawn and nearby what would become 'the school garden', where eventually there would be a small greenhouse and some raised beds. Pupils would plant salad and vegetable seeds and care for their progress. This was still considered essential learning just after WW2. Most working folk had a productive garden or allotment of some kind to grow a small amount of produce for themselves to eke out a meagre family housekeeping budget out what were very low wages.
