We could each have the mind of a child to learn and perceive, the magic of wonderment and the gift of tuition would be ours again. We would be more sensitive and vulnerable to the healing properties of the plants around us. Sometimes we would feel them healing us with their colors, scents, and sense of grace, just as we gaze upon their beauty. Teaching the children about herbs is an intimate way of spending time together, showing them the wild herbs in the garden, the herbs of the roadsides teaching them which are good for food, for medicine, and which to avoid. Though herbology as a healing art is recognized as the first of humankind’s earthly medicines and has been carried in the hearts of the people since time began, it is little understood today. In teaching our children how to use herbs as way of life, we carry on the tradition of this beautiful, effective, and ancient healing system.
