When buying or selling a property that previously was a DRY-CLEANING business, it's best to assume there is some level of environmental CONTAMINATION present. Why is contamination likely? Older dry cleaners typically used chemical solvents such as perchloroethylene (or “PERC”) and other hazardous chemicals. Many still do! The release of a very small amount of these hazardous chemicals over time has the potential to significantly impact soil and groundwater beneath the site and could even contaminate the air inside the building…even the surrounding buildings. CLEANUP, if needed, can be time consuming, complicated, and COSTLY! Concerned about your commercial real estate deal and an old dry cleaner? Give us a call. We can help you know the risks--BEFORE you close!
