Here are my tips to prepare your kitchen for a home inspection: Make sure all appliances are installed correctly and functioning, including garbage disposals. Remove all clutter. Be sure there isn’t anything stored in the stove or microwave, and excess items are removed from under the sink. Ensure an anti-tipping device is installed at the gas stove, the burners and oven work and the fan exhausts to the exterior. Check to make sure GFCI outlets are installed and working and switches are labeled, at least temporarily. Tighten cabinet hinges and check to see that all doors and drawers are secure. Make sure the counter top is secure and caulked at the back splash. Remove or deactivate child safety devices. There should be no temporary drains installed. There should be no plumbing leaks. There should be no slow or clogged drains The hose sprayer should be secure and not leaking. The dishwasher drain hose should be installed properly. Repair and repaint ceiling stains. Make sure the floors are in good condition and any asbestos flooring is covered. All lighting should be functional. Label switches. Ensure there is no mold growth anywhere.
