Media experiences

 

Thursday media tours are educational experiences available for students to visit St. Louis landmarks and learn about the city from a media perspective.

Transportation to media tours, provided by JEA and NSPA, is included in the price. Please allow up to 60 minutes travel time to and from the tour.

To join the tours, participating students will need to complete and submit the off-site permission form.

KMOV Station | $25
8:30-10:30 a.m. Limit 15.
KMOV is an STL TV station associated with CBS. The tour includes the opportunity to sit in for the one hour live show of “Great Day St. Louis,” a newscast featuring hosts Laura Hettinger, Kent Ehrhardt and Matt Chambers. Tour attendees will also get to sit in on a post live Q and A with promotions event manager John Vogt.

KMOX Station | $25
9-11 a.m. Limit 15.
KMOX is a commercial radio station in St. Louis. This tour will give students a chance to watch a live show in action featuring 18-year KMOX veteran and sports director Tom Ackerman. The tour will include KMOX studios, as well as the five other radio stations located at Audacy St. Louis: two talk stations, two adult contemporary stations and two urban music stations. Students will get a chance to debrief for a Q and A with Ackerman.

Lindenwood University | $25
9:30 a.m. to noon. Limit 100.
Lindenwood University is a private university in St. Charles and is home to a hands- on and experiential journalism program. Students gain real world experience as they study by working for The Link (the student newsmagazine), Lindenlink.com (an online multimedia news platform) and Mane Media (Live TV newscast. Tour attendees will hear from journalism professors about the evolution of the field of journalism. They will also tour the program’s TV studio (Mane Media), the FM radio station (KCLC) and the Lindenlink newsroom. To follow, a panel of current Lindenwood journalism students will share experiences with tour attendees.

International Photography Hall of Fame | $32
10-11 a.m. Limit 30.
The International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum honors those who have made great contributions to the field of photography and preserves historic photographs and cameras to share with the world. The museum houses 6,000-square-feet of gallery and exhibition space in the Grand Center area of St. Louis, one of the country’s densest cultural districts. Inside, a permanent tribute to the Hall of Fame Inductees stands alongside rotating exhibits from IPHF and partner collections. The feature display will be an exhibit of the 2022 hall inductees, who will be announced Nov. 4.

Enterprise Center | $40
10-11:30 a.m. Limit 30.
Enterprise Center is a state of the art sports and entertainment complex home to the St. Louis Blues, of the National Hockey League. The facility is host to  about 175 events per year, including concerts and NCAA basketball and hockey games. Participants will get a behind the scenes game-day tour of the arena as it prepares for Military Night at the Blues game.

STL Arch morning tour | $40
Morning tour: 10 a.m. to noon. Limit 30
Afternoon tour: 1-3 p.m. Limit 30.

The St. Louis Arch is a 630-foot stainless steel monument and national park on the St. Louis riverfront. Participants will get the opportunity to tour the interactive Museum at the Gateway Arch which features exhibits of explorers, pioneers and Native Americans responsible for the Western expansion of the United States. The group will meet with National Park Service staff members in a press conference style Q&A to talk about the operation and promotion of the world’s tallest arch. The tour will culminate with a tram ride to the top of the tallest monument in the United States.

Adam Wayne STL Photo Tour | $25
Noon to 2 p.m. Limit 30.

Adam Wayne is a St. Louis art photographer known for his breathtaking photos of the St. Louis area. He is also a resident artist at Soulard Art Gallery, recently named the No. 1 art gallery by St. Louis Magazine. Participants will get a tour of the gallery which displays the works of 13 resident artists across mediums. Bring your camera! The group will then go on a photo tour with Adam to some of his favorite spots to take pictures of St. Louis.

Zoo tour with JB | $25
Noon to 2 p.m. Limit 30.
The St. Louis Zoo is home to more than 14,000 animals and is one of the few free zoos in the nation. Located in historic Forest Park, the zoo can trace its roots to the 1904 World’s Fair including the Fair’s Flight Cage which is still in use. Participants will meet with award-winning photojournalist JB Forbes, known for his work with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch as well as wildlife photography. Take a tour of the zoo while getting  tips and tricks on taking photos of the nearly 5,000 different species representing all of the major continents.

Centene Stadium | $25
1-2 p.m. Limit 30.
Centene Stadium is a 22,500 seat soccer stadium and home of the St. Louis City Soccer Club, who will play its inaugural season in Major League Soccer in 2023. The stadium is in Downtown West next to the historic Union Station. Be one of the first to tour the state of the art facility which features every seat within 120 feet of the pitch, including the closest seats within 15 feet of the touchline. Students will get a chance to see the press box, pitch club and adjacent practice facilities.

Explore St. Louis Social Media Bootcamp | $25
1-3 p.m. Limit 50.
The St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission, known as Explore St. Louis, is the official marketing organization of St. Louis City and St. Louis County and is responsible for helping bring more than $5 billion to the region annually. This tour is perfect for those interested in business communications and public relations, or who are trying to grow their social media following. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with the vice president of communications to talk about the work they do to engage audiences cross platform. They will also get hands-on experience working with their social media guru, who will teach them best practices with captions, photos and video.

 

Busch Stadium | $40
2-3 p.m. Limit 40.
Busch Stadium is the 45,538 seat home of the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball. The stadium plays host to more than three million visitors each year. Take a one-hour guided tour and learn about the history of the stadium while visiting areas of the stadium not readily accessible during game day operations including the field and the broadcast booth. Cost includes access to the Cardinals Hall of Fame and Museum at Cardinals Nation.
Note: This tour will be canceled if the Cardinals have a home playoff game that day.
