Treatment Plan

A treatment plan is an individualized plan for management of a condition state or diagnosis. I strive to help my clients live a better life, one that is more balanced and better equipped to manage stress. Treatment planning often includes recommendations for medication management, regular psychotherapy, anticipated duration of treatment, and suggestions for practical daily lifestyle changes.

Anyone can develop an emotional or mental illness — you, a family member, a friend, or a neighbor. Some disorders are mild, while others are severe and enduring. These conditions can be both diagnosed and treated by a physician psychiatrist . Most people can live better lives after targeted mental health treatment. Psychotherapeutic medications are an increasingly important element in the successful treatment of emotional or mental illness.

Treatment Focus

Therapy

Depression, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. Nearly 10 percent of American adults experience depression. Anxiety is a normalized response to a perceived threat; however, sometimes anxiety worsens and becomes a debilitating disorder which severely impacts an individual’s desire to live a meaningful life. Depression and anxiety disorders are different, but  commonly occur together and have similar treatments: counseling (psychotherapy) or medication, or both. People with depression often experience symptoms similar to those of an anxiety disorder, such as nervousness, irritability, and problems sleeping and concentrating. Each disorder has its own causes and its own emotional and behavioral symptoms. Through counseling and treatment, individuals can often regain motivation, hope, and improved perspective that moves one toward a better life.

Depression & Anxiety

P Trauma is defined as an event or circumstance resulting in: physical harm, emotional harm, and/or life-threatening harm. Acute stress disorder as well as PTSD, or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, are disorders that can occur following the experience or witnessing of a life-threatening events. The initial stages the response to a traumatic event can be considered a protective mechanism; however, when this response goes haywire, acute stress disorder and PTSD are often the result.  There is hope! Most survivors of trauma return to their baseline or a sense of ‘normalcy’ given support, treatment, and even time. However, some people will have stress reactions that do not go away on their own, or may even get worse over time. Acute stress disorder can be treated promptly to prevent progression to PTSD. PTSD can be treated with psychotherapy and medicines such as antidepressants. Early treatment is very beneficial to promote healing and prevent chronic PTSD, and is critical to help reduce long-term symptoms.

Trauma & PTSD

Medication management helps to promote the safe use of medications from a practitioner trained in pharmacology such as a doctor, nurse practitioner, or physician’s assistant. Medication management is most effective when used in conjunction with therapy. For those with mental health disorders, medication management is often an important part of the recovery process when used in an effective way as part of the overall treatment.  Like any medication, psychotherapeutic medications do not produce the same effect in everyone. Some people may respond better to one medication than another. Some may need larger dosages than others. Some have side effects, and others do not. Your physician psychiatrist will work with you to develop a personalized plan that takes into account your medical history, lifestyle, mental health history, and personal goals.
