1901

The Company's former incarnation Kobe Boil Oil Co., Ltd. was founded.

1933

The Company was established through the merger of Kobe Boil Oil Co., Ltd. and Toyo Paint Manufacturing Co., Ltd.

1938

Formed capital and technology alliance with Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd.

Shinto Chemical Laboratory was newly established and commenced manufacturing of preservatives/insect repellents, fragrances, disinfectants, other industrial chemicals, and pharmaceutical products.

1940

Amagasaki Plant commenced operations, and head office was relocated to current address.

1943

Merged with Teikoku Paint Co., Ltd. and was renamed Tokyo Plant.

1951

Listed on Osaka Securities Exchange.

1961

Formed technology alliance with Vianova (Austria) on resins for water-based baking paints.

1965

Chiba Plant commenced operations.

1968

Formed business alliance with Sigma Corporation (Holland) on marine-use paints.

1971

Established joint venture Japan Carboline Co., Ltd. with Carboline Company (USA) and Sumitomo Corporation.

Formed a technology alliance with Glidden Company (USA) on electrodeposition paints, emulsion paints and other paints in general.

1985

Established paint marketing company Hokkaido Shinto Co., Ltd.

1986

Completed new FMS plant (solvent paints) in Amagasaki Plant.

Completed manufacturing plant for new powder paint "Inovacs" in Chiba Plant.

1987

Completed modernization of color-matching plant by introducing CCS system in Amagasaki Plant.

1988

Established Taiwan Shinto Chemical Co., Ltd. (currently Axalta Shinto Coating Systems Taiwan Co., Ltd.)

Established joint venture for marine-use paints (Sigma Shinto Coatings Co., Ltd.) with Sigma Corporation (Holland).

1989

Established paint marketing company Chubu Shinto Co., Ltd.

1989

Established new Tokyo Office in Shinkiba, Koto-ku, Tokyo

Established joint venture company TOA-SHINTO (THAILAND) CO., LTD. with TOA Group, Thailand.

1991

Established paint marketing company Kyushu Shinto Co., Ltd.

Completed redevelopment project for former Tokyo laboratory's site.

1994

Relocated Osaka Chemicals Plant to a new plant in Amagasaki Plant.

Established CBS Shinto Paint & Chemical Trade, Inc. with CBS, Turkey.

1995

Established paint marketing company Tokyo Shinto Co., Ltd.

1996

Established paint marketing company Seibu Shinto Co., Ltd.

Established joint venture company Shinto-Welbest Mfg, Inc. with Welbest, Philippines.

Sold LCD panel color filters business.

1997

Transferred chemical product business to Shinto Fine Co., Ltd. (currently Sumika Environmental Science Co., Ltd.).

Established joint venture company Shinto-Herberts Automotive Systems Co., Ltd (currently Axalta Shinto Coating Systems Co., Ltd.) with Herberts GmbH, Germany; engaged in the business of automotive paints and industrial electrodeposition paints (excluding aluminum electrodeposition paints).

Herberts GmbH, Germany (currently Axalta Coating Systems) took equity stake of the Company.

Established joint venture company Shintra Sdn Bhd with EXTRA, Malaysia.

2000

Tokyo Shinto Co., Ltd. and Seibu Shinto Co., Ltd. were acquired by the Company.

ISO9001 certification was updated and extended on a company-wide scale.

2001

ISO14001 certification was obtained on a company-wide scale.

2006

Shares of Taiwan Shinto Chemical Co., Ltd. (currently Axalta Shinto Coationg Systems Taiwan Co., Ltd.) were transferred to DuPont-Shinto Automotive Systems Co., Ltd. (currently Axalta Shinto Coating Systems Co., Ltd.)

2007

Japan Carboline Co., Ltd. became the Company's subsidiary.

2012

Established PT.Shinto Paint Indonesia In Indonesia.

Established Shinto Paint Trading (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. in China.

2013

Established PT.Shinto Paint Manufacturing Indonesia In Indonesia.

2016

Established Shinto TOA Vietnam in Vietnam.
