A man was killed by Amarillo police after running from a scene, crashing into a house, and shooting at officers.

The suspect was identified as 30-year-old Jesus Rodriguez.

Around 11:15 p.m. Sunday, police were responding to a store alarm when someone flagged them down and asked officers them to check on a domestic dispute in the 6300 block of Leigh Street.

As officers arrived, Rodriguez was leaving the scene in a car.

Rodriguez attempted to run from police, but crashed into a home, about half-a-mile away, in the 2700 block of Ries Lane.

There was an 11-month-old child in the bedroom where the car entered the home. Police ran around the car and got the baby out. The baby was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

In the meantime, Rodriguez shot at other officers through the back windshield of the car.

Officers returned fire and struck Rodriguez.

No officers were injured.

Rodriguez was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

The Amarillo Police Department's Homicide Unit is investigating.
