EXTENDED FORECAST - Firstly, thank you to everyone who share photos of the northern lights with us through Chime In. Last night's event certainly exceeded expectations for much of the lower 48 states. The northern lights were spotted as far south as the Bahamas and Central Texas. To put this into perspective, northern lights events of this magnitude are considered generational events only happening once every 20-30 years so if you got to see it congrats! We will have another slim chance for the aurora to put on a show Saturday night but it likely won't be as magnificent as what we witnessed yesterday. Our rain chances will continue through Sunday with 2 rounds of rain expected. The first round looks to swing through the northern half of the panhandles early Sunday morning. These showers and thunderstorms are expected to remain below severe limits but the 2nd round in the evening could bring stronger storms through the eastern panhandles. There is a MARGINAL RISK for a severe storm or two Sunday evening. The biggest concern will be hail up to the size of ping pong balls and winds up to 60 mph. Storms Sunday evening should be more isolated as the atmosphere will be somewhat worked over from earlier storms Sunday. We will dry things out on Monday and Tuesday with temperatures warming back up into the 80s before our next chance of rain arrives in the middle of the week with our next cold front Wednesday evening into Thursday morning.
