London: John Murray, 1823. First edition. Leather. Very Good Indeed. 12" by 8.5". Captain Batty. A beautifully illustrated collection of illustrations of Welsh scenes, drawn by Robert Batty. The first edition of this work. This collection of Robert Batty's illustrations include plates if Abergavenny Castle, Hay, Harlech Castle, Nantz Mill, Snowdon, Dolbadern Castle, Llangollen, and many more. Illustrated by Robert Batty. Batty was an army officer, who was wounded at the Battle of Waterloo, and later in his life published an illustrated account of his experiences in the battle. He travelled a lot, to France, Germany, and Belgium, drawing as he went, published numerous collections of scenic books. His work was also exhibited at the Royal Academy. With thirty-five plates. Collated, complete. In the original half morocco binding with pebbled paper to the boards. Externally, smart. Light rubbing to the joints, head and tail of the spine, and to the extremities, being heavier to the front joint. A little loss to the rear board to the leather to the fore edge and bottom edge. Very light marking to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the occasional spot and mark, mostly to the first and last few pages. Small puncture marks to the fore edge of most pages. Very Good Indeed
