Producer Information
Grupo Bodegas Olarra is a Spanish business with three wineries. Bodegas Olarra and Bodegas Ondarre are both located in Rioja. Bodegas y Viñedos Casa del Valle is situated in Castilla La Mancha. Bodegas Olarra was the first winery to be established, in 1973. It is located in the far east of the Rioja Alta zone, in the outskirts of Logroño. Apart from its wines, Olarra is known for the architecture of its winery, particularly the barrel room. This features 111 hexagonal domes designed to avoid sudden temperature changes. There are four sub-brands. These are Añares, Cerro Añon, Summa and Erudito. Most of the red wines are based on Tempranillo, as is usual in this region. However the Cerron Añon range also features single variety red wines made from Mazuelo (Carignan) and Graciano. Bodegas Ondarre followed in 1985, situated in Viana in the northwest corner of Rioja Oriental. Ageworthy Reserva and Crianza red wines are made under the Ondarre banner, as well as Cava sparkling wines. The Valdebarón label is also made here. Casa del Valle was founded in 2000, following the Bordeaux château model. 82 hectares (203 acres) of vineyards surround the winery. They are planted to French grape varieties; Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. The Finca Valdelagua bottling leads the range of Vinos de la Tierra de Castilla wines made here. It is a blend of the three varieties grown here, which spends 12 months in barrique. The Hacienda Casa del Valle and Acantus ranges complete the portfolio.
