Florida Department of Health in Broward County permits and inspects public swimming pools to assure safety and sanitary requirements are met. Before construction or modification of a public pool, written approval must be obtained from the appropriate Building Department. Construction and modification plans must be prepared, signed and sealed by a professional engineer licensed in the State of Florida. Examples of modifications which would require approval include non-equivalent changes or additions to filtration and treatment equipment or to the pool structure.
Before a newly constructed or modified pool is placed into service, an initial operating permit must be obtained and the pool must receive a satisfactory operating inspection from the Florida Department of Health in Broward County. Public swimming pools are inspected at least twice within the permit year in Broward County.
