Impact Programs

The Call for Proposals closed January 10, 2024 at 5PM ET.

IMPACT Programming was launched in 2023 and will return for the 2024 convention! The goal of IMPACT programming is to provide a platform for showcasing the breadth and scope of work being conducted on the same topic by members of APA. This year, IMPACT programming will be selected among divisional poster submissions. If your poster submission is of high quality and addresses one of the topics listed below, put it forward as an IMPACT submission. IMPACT programming will receive prominent placement in the convention schedule and IMPACT designation is an accomplishment that can be added to CVs and job applications. Help us demonstrate how psychology can have an IMPACT on important societal topics!

APA 2024 IMPACT Program Possible Topics

  • inclusivity and belonging
  • mis/disinformation
  • trauma (including collective trauma and/or transgenerational trauma)
  • access to psychological services and research

What is IMPACT Programming?

IMPACT programming consists of talks, and data blitzes, that will be scheduled outside of standard, division-based programming. IMPACT programming is distinct from all other programming (it will not influence standard division programming hours) and being selected to participate in the IMPACT program will not prevent participation in standard, division-based programs. You do not need to be a member of an APA division to submit a proposal for IMPACT programming.

How to Participate
  • IMPACT presentations will be selected from among division poster submissions.
  • All IMPACT abstracts must indicate agreement to present in either a talk, and/or data blitz format (to be decided upon by BCA). Not all abstracts will be selected for inclusion in IMPACT programming.
  • Abstract descriptions will be limited to up to 250-300 words   and must provide sections on background/significance, methods/discussion, results, and discussion/impact.
  • Abstracts will be reviewed and selected based upon the fit of the abstract with the proposed topic. Diversity in perspectives, divisional representation, and presenters will be prioritized.
  • Decisions will be issued around the time when division programming decisions are announced.
  • If your abstract is of high quality and related to one of the possible IMPACT topic areas, all you need to do when you submit your abstract is to declare your interest in being considered as an IMPACT submission and which of the possible topics your submission pertains to.

Important Information

ALL presenters and program participants—members, nonmembers, and students—are required to register for APA 2024 and pay the appropriate registration fees. APA 2024 registration will open in April.
