How are y'all? Looks like you haven't posted in a while. Are you all alright? Did you need a break from all the mmdc shite? Lol

nah we’re all still pretty active in the mmdc, we’re just forgetful and simply haven’t touched this blog in forever lmao

sidenote: why did mod gumi have to remind me of anomoro I just forgot

You Can Never Be Free.

Hmm what do you think about Sour bases? I like their faces a lot better than those pointy TDA chins lol (I know Sour chins are pretty pointy too, but I don't feel like Miku could injure me by ramming me with her chin in Sour style lmao) I think that would be fun to make utau models out of. Whaddya think? I value your opinions 😩

i like them

Hi! I was wondering if any of the mods had some favorite places to look for parts for models. I intend to get back into MMD (I'm suprised it's still alive tbh lmao) and wanna make models for some utaus and shizzle. Preferably parts that won't need much work, cause I've always been shit at physics and rigging lol. Thanks!
image

Mod Meiko here! The main places I head to for parts such as bases and faces is DeviantART. There are enough parts to feed a small country tbh. There’s a whole lot to choose from along with clothing as well! But for the love of god avoid tda faces.

Another website I often peruse is Bowlroll. It’s got a wide selection of props, stages, and some clothes as well (1ya is a user you might want to check out!) The whole site is in Japanese, including searches, so if Japanese isn’t your strong suit, google translate is your best friend. Be careful on how you word things, though!

image

Keep in mind, though: rigging will always play a role in most parts of editing, so instead of avoiding it, why not give it a shot?

I hope I was able to help you out!

Anonymous asked:
how should a regular schlub with no 3D-modeling skill go about making a cute oc model without using cheap tda parts? free available model parts seem really limited to like, tda and lat. thanks for your time, and i appreciate your positive attitude!

sorry to be blunt but….look harder? there’s so many good parts out there that aren’t tda and lat

Could you please critique this model?  I kinda updated her, so ummm, I don’t know what to say…

( i will be analyzing the ‘default’ model in this model pack that you’ve provided. )

image
image

firstly, i want to say that before releasing any mmd model or edit, please please please PLEASE clean it up first!! from what i can see here, there are extra, unused bones, physics everywhere, and the display panel is an absolute mess. there are plenty of tutorials on deviantart to learn how to clean your models, and there are even checklists available to make sure you have exactly what you need done before releasing a model for public use.

image

instead of splitting a material to make a different hair color, i would rather recommend editing the texture itself. it looks much neater and less blocky and unnatural.

image

not to mention, the head, hair, and other features look a lot like the lenka tda models that are already out there. i don’t know if this is something you’d want to keep in mind, but since you’re trying to make a model of a utau, i’d recommend not basing her appearance off of an already preexisting character. also, black eyebrows do not match with blonde hair. try making the eyebrows a dark blonde or a brown. same thing with the eyelashes; it doesnt look natural.

the textures on the face look very rushed, as well as the eyeshadow being asymmetrical. i doubt that was the look you were probably going for, so i would try and keep the face all one texture instead of splitting it in two. there’s a tutorial on how to add scars, markings, etc to objects you can use to have the red marks on her face there without having to split the face texture.

i’m also unsure if those two lines on her lips are supposed to be stitches or piercings; either way, make them as actual objects instead of just a drawn texture. simply googling ‘mmd piercing’ would give you several options to choose from.

image

there’s also a rigging issue with the shorts that should probably be fixed.

image

… and the ears aren’t completely fitted to the head, which is extremely distracting.

image

i would also HIGHLY recommend adding english facials !! it makes everything so much easier!

image

in the end, the only things that can really save this model would be if you fixed the textures, the display panel, give the model a major spring cleaning, and/or find better parts. i would also apply spas and toons to the rest of the parts and try and spruce up the rest of the textures to make them seem more original, rather than a copy-paste tda OC with default textures. that would help it stand out more as a model!

good luck!

besides TDA, what other model-types do you have problems with? like in my opinion, any character besides Miku herself usually looks terrible in LAT.

hm… thats a toughie tbh! kh models in general honestly look really bad, and pjd faces on other models is quite strange

thats all i can come up with :>

So i’m making my first model from scratch (going to be Ruko Yokune!!) and this si what  have so far! I was wondering if I could have some good, hard, constructive critique on it, since you said you do more than just TDA. meanwhile, i’ll continue trudging along, trying to figure out how to export it from blender, because yes i am that inept.

hmm.. while i do like the face, i feel like a lot of improvements need to be made to the body especially the legs. the indent of the knees makes it look very tightly pinched and molded instead of… human-y.

the whole body in general just seems very slim from the side; id recommend thickening it just a little bit.

MOD IROHA PUT THIS ON AS I WAS WRITING THIS LONG ASS RESPONSE GOD DAMN AAAAAAAUGHNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

HERE’S WHAT I WROTE JHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

thank you for your submission! <3

im going to be honest- the body is far from great. from the front, it looks okay, but the way that the legs bend like that aren’t realistic at all. i understand if you’re trying to go for a stylistic approach, but even then you should pay attention to how bodies work. (i’m sorry, i’m realizing now that sounds really mean, but i’m bad at being blunt without sounding like an asshole)

it’s also very thin width-wise (from the side). back to the front of it, i think it looks good for the most part! the only thing i’d say to try to work on from the front view is the waist and upper arm. the upper arm is too thick compared to the forearm and the waist looks a bit too small to me.

god……….the face……. it makes me so happy jsdfhdgfdhggd

for your first face, it looks gorgeous!!!! it’s extremely stylized and you pull it off. i looked at your art (which i also like a lot) and i can tell that you definitely referenced your own style, which is good. the face looks amazing and you definitely have a lot of potential in that department! i can tell that soon you’re going to be a great modeler! i especially love the textures jdsjdsjjd there’s like nothing wrong with that face i love it so much,, i also love that it’s relatively low poly!! i’m a sucker for low poly models. also i don’t know if you meant to but it’s smart to keep the mouth open when you’re modelling a face, because it’s easier to make facials.

i’m sorry if my critique was too blunt!! you said to give you a hard critique dfdhfhgd,, as for exporting, i think this is the program that i use. if it’s not then just send us an ask off anon (so we know its you) and i’ll answer it privately with the right one (i have two but i always forget which one is the one that actually works)

hope i helped! this is the longest critique i’ve written i’m pretty sure
