Basic Information

What knowledge will I acquire with this Master?

The role of the profession of Psychology in the field of Health is unquestionable. As a result of the academic reorganization of University studies in Spain (RD 1393/2007, RD 861/2010), the new Degrees in Psychology have been assigned mainly to the branch of Health Sciences, making it more evident how the intervention of Psychology is decisive to prevent, maintain or improve different aspects of the health of individuals or groups. This includes, of course, clinical interventions with patients, but also other types of non-clinical interventions, including promotion and education activities for both individual and community psychological health.

The Title qualifies for the profession of General Health Psychologist, as established in the seventh additional provision of Law 33/2011, of October 4, General Public Health and with the requirements of the study plans established in Order ECD / 10702013 , of June 12.

Is this degree official according to the regulations required by the European Higher Education Area?

Recommended income profile

Students who have possession of an official Spanish university degree or another issued by a higher education institution of the European Higher Education Area that authorizes access to Master's degrees in the country that issued the degree.

Objectives

The proposed Master complies with the provisions of said Order, being structured into three modules, in addition to a broad module of External Internships and a final Master's Thesis:

  • The first set of activities establishes and extends the knowledge acquired in the Degree in Psychology with respect to health and the professional presuppositions of Health Psychology: the presence in the different fields, the complexity of the bio-psycho-social model of health defended by the main international organizations, the bioethical foundations of the health profession and even the bases for the establishment and management of autonomous activity.
  • The second set of activities develops the necessary skills for the professional development of Psychology in the field of health from research in this field to professional practice in evaluation and diagnosis, training in basic skills and intervention in the different areas. of Health Psychology.
  • Finally, an extensive internship module is proposed that allows students to acquire the behavioral and experiential components necessary to fully acquire the skills of the degree, as well as a Master's Thesis in which they show the effective acquisition of general skills. associated with the title and those specifically linked to the specific topic of the chosen work.

  • CE24 - Know the nature and explanatory theoretical frameworks of psychopathological, health and neuropsychological disorders, as well as the different models of evaluation, diagnosis and intervention in the field of Health Psychology.
  • CE25 - Know, at an advanced level, the psychological and developmental processes and the psychobiological and psychosocial bases of abnormal and pathological behavior, as well as the psychological components associated with health problems. Know how to assess and integrate the implication of the different biopsychosocial aspects in the development of psychological disorders and health problems
  • CE26 - Know how to identify and formulate research problems and know how to access the scientific literature to gather existing information in relation to said problem. Know how to analyze and interpret research data within the framework of their disciplinary knowledge, draw conclusions from them and communicate them to the professional and scientific community.
  • CE27 - Know how to select and apply the methods and techniques of evaluation and diagnosis and the data collection instruments appropriate to the case, based on knowledge of the evaluation models and the aetiological theories of psychological and neuropsychological disorders and psychological factors involved in health and disease processes; knowing how to design and adapt methods and instruments according to the needs of each case and the context of the evaluation.
  • CE28 - Design, develop and supervise psychological health prevention and promotion programs at all levels (universal, selective and indicated; community, family, educational, individual)

Admission and enrollment

The requirements for access to the proposed title are according to article 18, of Royal Decree 822/2021, of September 28:

  1. Possession of an official Spanish Graduate or Graduate university degree or equivalent is a condition for accessing a Master's Degree, or, where appropriate, having another University Master's degree, or titles of the same level as the Spanish Bachelor's or Master's degree issued by universities and higher education institutions in an EHEA country that in that country allow access to Master's degrees.
  2. In the same way, people in possession of titles from educational systems that are not part of the EHEA, which are equivalent to a Bachelor's degree, will be able to access a Master's Degree in the Spanish university system, without the need for homologation of the title, but verification by of the university of the level of training that they imply, as long as in the country where said title was issued it allows access to university postgraduate level studies. In no case will access through this route imply the homologation of the previous degree held by the person concerned or its recognition for other purposes than that of carrying out the Master's degree.

Recommended requirements:

It will be a necessary requirement for access to the Master's Degree in General Health Psychology, the possession of a Bachelor's degree/Graduate in Psychology together, where appropriate, with complementary training that guarantees that the interested party has obtained at least 90 ECTS credits of a specifically sanitary.

 Graduates in Psychology who have passed study plans with a mention in Health Psychology adapted to the “Order CNU/1309/2018, of December 5, which regulates the general conditions to which the study plans will be adjusted of the Degree in Psychology”, they meet this access requirement by having a mention in Health Psychology in their official university degree.

The procedure to allow access to holders of Bachelor's/Graduate degrees in Psychology verified prior to the entry into force of the aforementioned Order CNU/1309/2018 consists of verifying that the study plan they have passed includes training of at least least 90 ECTS credits of a specifically health nature, and otherwise establish the training complements from among the subjects that make up the mention in Health Psychology of the Degree in Psychology. In this regard:

  • For Graduates in Psychology, who have passed study plans prior to their adaptation to the aforementioned Order CNU/1309/2018, a training of at least 90 ECTS credits of a specifically health nature has been guaranteed, by the external evaluation processes carried out by the quality assurance agencies for the verification of the study plan for the Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, taking the white paper as a reference, as well as for the initial verification of the study plan for the Master's Degree in General Health Psychology.
  • For Psychology graduates, a training of at least 90 ECTS credits of a specifically health nature has been guaranteed, by the external evaluation processes carried out by thes agencies of quality assurance for the determination of level 3 of the Spanish Framework of Qualifications for Higher Education, as well as for the initial verification of the Master's study plan in General Health Psychology.

 Based on these arguments, the titles of Graduate in Psychology and Bachelor of Psychology, issued in the Spanish state prior to order CNU/1309/2018, have the necessary requirements for access to the Master in General Health Psychology and therefore their holders cannot be excluded from the selection processes, nor do they require additional training.

If the foreign degree was homologated to a Bachelor of Psychology in accordance with Royal Decree 285/2004, of February 20, it would meet the requirement for access to the University Master's Degree in General Health Psychology. In the case of foreign degrees subject to the procedure regulated in Royal Decree 967/2014, of November 21, and which have obtained a declaration of equivalence to a Degree, they would not meet the requirements for access to the aforementioned master's degree since possession of of a certain title of Graduate in Psychology".

Candidate selection:

In the event that the demand exceeds the supply of places, the candidates will be selected taking into account the academic record and the curriculum.

 The file will be weighted with 80% of the final assessment and the curriculum with 20%. In the event of a tie between candidates, a personal interview will be held to assess their attitude towards the master's degree and commitment to its completion.

Regarding 20% ​​of the CV, they are valued, always in the field of health the following aspects:

  • Double degree training or other official master's studies.
  • Non-regulated training in recognized centers: workshops, seminars, courses, etc.
  • Internships other than those required for a bachelor's or master's degree, volunteering and jobs.
  • Research experience: consolidated teams, articles, contributions to congresses or other publications.
  • Scholarships and awards.

External Internships

The External Practices subject is a curricular subject whose main objective is to promote a comprehensive training of the student through the practical application of the knowledge acquired during the master's degree, which facilitates direct contact with the professional activity and the opportunity to join the professional world with a minimum of experience. All practices are designed so that the students who participate in them acquire professional experience in real situations and conditions, applying the knowledge, skills and attitudes that are acquired in the training processes throughout the degree. The internships represent a decisive opportunity for the personal development and professional future of the students.

Internships are activities carried out by the student in companies, institutions and organizations; that is, in centers outside the university premises, which aim to enrich and complement your university education, while providing you with a deeper knowledge about the skills you will need once you have graduated.

The External Practices subject will consist of two phases:

  • Completion of the internship period that offers professional experience related to any of the graduate profiles that are expressed in the Verification Report of the degree.

Mobility programs

University Master's degrees, due to their duration and characteristics, in general do not specifically contemplate the mobility of their students. Renewal of accreditation

The renewal of the accreditation represents the culmination of the implementation process of the official Bachelor's and Master's degrees registered in the Register of Universities, Centers and Degrees (RUCT). The renewal of the accreditation of official bachelor's and master's degrees is organized in three phases: self-assessment report, external visit and final assessment.
