Real People

This is a new series introducing our readers to Lancaster’s top real estate agents. Our first interview is with Jeremy Ganse of  Remax Smarthub.

Jeremy, you and I both know that real estate is an ever-changing business. Technology has altered how people can view properties for sale, check home values, and much more. In a world where this much power is in the hands of the consumer, what are the skills, gifts, and methods you bring to your relationship with a buyer or seller that an online app cannot provide?

Strategy: Through counseling interviews I work with both buyers and sellers to help identify goals, needs, deal breakers, and timeframes.  This strategic approach allows me to advise my clients on offer and marketing approaches that help them to accomplish their goals and feel confident in their decisions.

You have often spoken about how your Lancaster roots are deep and your ties to the community are strong. What is your history in Lancaster? How do you believe these traditions help serve all of your clients, including those new to the area who are wishing to make this wonderful area their home, as well as those - like you - who have connections and relationships with the oldest of Lancaster families?

I truly believe in the power of community.  I grew up in Lancaster County and have been a part of the growth and development of our community over the last 15 years.  Helping my clients find their unique connection to Lancaster County is part of what I enjoy most about my job.

Family is important to both of us. We have bonded over the joy we get from being there for our families. Please tell our readers about your family and how this core value of ‘family first,’ extends to your relationships in the business world?

My wife, Lisa and I have been married since 2003 and have raised 3 children in Lancaster County.  Our oldest is about to spread her wings as a freshmen at NC State in Raleigh North Carolina.  While we will miss her, we are excited to see her spread her wings with the knowledge that her roots are as strong or stronger than ours with her home here in Lancaster County.  Our boys are growing and learning as a part of the diverse school system in Lancaster County.  There are so many great education opportunities, public, private, and religious.  The educational choices available to families in Lancaster County is a large part of what creates these roots and allows children, parents, and caregivers to feel connected to their community.

These have been some unprecedented and unpredictable times in real estate. Only those with a reputation for respect and fair play, as well as a deep understanding of the complexities of real estate have been able to thrive in this market. You are one such power player. Please share what you believe allows you to navigate this market for your clients.

No single transaction is more important than another and each client deserves the highest level of customer service possible.  Given the complexity of the current market, it is important that consumers interview agents and feel comfortable that they are working with an expert who can help them navigate market complexities.  If they aren’t comfortable, they need to keep interviewing agents.

Let’s play a game. I bet it’s one you have actually played at parties or other outings, when folks find out that you're a real estate agent. It’s called the “Parents' Concern” and it sounds like this: “My kids are newly married, in their 20s or 30s, and they want to buy a house. The market is totally different than when we bought our home 30 years ago. Where do they start? Can they even think about a house?” How do you answer them?

It depends.  When is a good time in the next 3 to 7 days for me to sit down and complete a strategy review with you and your kid(s)?  Until we understand their goals, needs, deal breakers, and timeframes it’s irresponsible to advise.  Just as with medical professionals, prescription without diagnosis is malpractice.

Last one - and it may be tough for you: You are quick to support and praise others, but: What do you think would be 3-5 words family members, friends, and clients would use to describe you?
