What’s the Scoop?

When was the last time you visited a new (or new to you) ice cream shop? With the weather warming up, I’ve been thinking about ice cream more. I finally got to visit one that’s been on my list for months: The Scoop.

The Scoop is a shop located in Potomac’s Cabin John Village. Brothers (and Montgomery County natives) Mitchell and Timothy Ryoo own it. Inspired by how happy their father was when he had ice cream, their mission is to spread happiness through ice cream. After visiting the shop, I can say that the shop reflects this. It’s a very bright and airy space that made me want to stay for a while. It felt like a great place to hang out with family and friends for a delightful scoop of ice cream.

WHAT I ORDERED

The Scoop’s menu has regular, vegan, sorbet, adult flavors, and seasonal ice cream flavors. These flavors include Ube Honeycomb, Strawberry Guava Sorbet, Hokkaido Milk Tea, Kahlua Brownie, and Baileys Mocha Chip. The most difficult decision I made this day was deciding on two flavors. I narrowed it down and chose Cookie Butter. The employee helping me recommended Bourbon St.

Cookie Butter

Anytime I see cookie butter anything, I want to try it. This moment was no different. Cookie butter is a spread traditionally made with ground speculoos cookies.

If you’ve had cookie butter or Trader Joe’s cookie butter ice cream, you need to try this ice cream! It tastes just like Biscoff’s cookie butter, which I think is the best one I’ve tried. It was sweet and perfectly rich. I wish that I ordered two scoops! The Scoop nailed this flavor.

Bourbon St.

Bourbon St. has a dark chocolate ice cream base with bourbon liquor and pralines. I’m not a big chocolate ice cream or nut person, but this sounded intriguing. It was also my first time trying pralines.

This ice cream was delightful. I loved that the bourbon added just enough flavor but wasn’t overpowering. The pralines paired well with the chocolate bourbon flavor combo. I’d get this flavor again. If you love chocolate and nuts, this is the flavor for you!

CONCLUSION

The Scoop is a cute shop with some of the coolest flavors I’ve seen. I love that there’s a good range of flavor types. The staff was so kind and helpful. I can’t wait to visit again with my family to get a scoop or two. I think it’s the perfect place to hang out with family and friends.
