Meet our Founder

As a young boy, Phil Zimmerman remembers the early mornings heading out to milk the cows with his father on their dairy farm in Jefferson, MD. When the family farm business was sold, Phil went to work for Ausherman Construction Company and worked for the Garst Paint Center for a brief period. Phil went into business for himself in 1967 to provide high quality painting services for the Frederick, MD area and in 1975, Frederick Painting and Supply, Inc. was formed.

He and his wife Mary are life-long residents of Frederick County and have raised their four children here. He is an active member of the Frederick Church of the Brethren. Phil and Mary have been active with the Frederick County 4-H program since their children participated and continue to be involved with the Great Frederick Fair, and a supporter of the 4-H program.  He enjoys the outdoors, hunting, walking, social events, helping others, and spending time with his family.

The Next Generation

Shawn Zimmerman started painting in the summer of 1991, the year before he graduated high school. After graduating from Frederick High, he worked part time at Frederick Painting and Supply, while taking classes at Frederick Community College. He had the opportunity to work alongside of and learn the trade from Painters who had been painting since the 1950’s. It was during this time he learned to appreciate the craftsmanship and hard work that was needed to do a job right.
Shawn decided to pursue his career in the family business and continued to develop his skills in the trade while also developing the necessary skills to manage the business.
And then Shawn met Margaret! It didn’t take him long to decide that She was the one for him. They were married on July 15, 2000. And then along came the kids…Rachel (2006), Abby (2008), and Chase (2010)

As the kids have gotten older, the family has become active in 4-H livestock & home economics programs, cub scouts, dance, and music. When Shawn has some free time, he enjoys being outdoors, canoeing, camping, hiking, hunting, fishing and spending time with family. He also volunteers as an Audio & Video Tech at Frederick Church of the Brethren, where his family attends.
Shawn has been blessed to be mentored by his Father in business and life, and now does his best to “pay it forward”.
