A saintly statue

The statue of Saint Catherine soaks in the morning light in the storefront window of Candleshoe Antiques and Collectibes, 1410 Washington Ave. in Uptown Racine. Candleshoe is co-owned by couple Anthony and Gina Dentici, who are currently taking customers by appointment. The couple's contact information is posted on the front door of their store. Candleshoe specializes in religious artifacts, iconography and antique furniture. The Dentici's are practicing Catholics, who call their work a passion and part of their faith. The statue of Saint Catherine was said to date from the early 1900's from the Daprato Rigali Studios, noted creators of religious iconography. Anthony Dentici called the statue of Saint Catherine, which he said came from St. Joan of Antida Church consolidation a "restoration piece" needing a lily, which is a sign of purity, and a spiked wheel upon which she was tortured. Anthony Dentici said his plan is to have regular store hours Thursday, Friday and Saturdays starting in late May or early June. / Scott Anderson scott.anderson@journaltimes.com Buy this Photo at jtreprints.com
